Kitty cat problems
07.06.04 (5:58 am)   [edit]
Anyone know what could be causing my litlle girlcat Bod to pull her fur out? She keeps grabbing big mouthfuls of fur in her mouth and just yanking. She's flea free and doesn't have any obvious skin problems - at least that's what the vet said - but it's really upsetting me to see her pulling her fur out. Any ideas?

My cats do it to each other - they don't have bald patches. It seems to be their way of helping each other 'shed' I think. Never had a problem with it - other than cleaning up the clumps of fur...

Thanks Scuba! There seem to be big clumps of her fur everywhere but she has only one tiny bald patch on the side of the stomach. She's pulled off enough fur to give a bald cat a complete new coat!

She could be stressed. My Lacey scrathed her ears until they bleed when my landlord did renovations. Once he finished, so did she. Or she could be allergic to something. Are you using new detergent to do laundry or new perfume that she might rub against.

Nope, same old detergent and same old perfume. I have sensitive skin myself so i don't think i've used anything different since before i got her 3 years ago.

Call your vet or a local petstore - they are usually pretty helpful.

How long has she been doing it?

About 3 weeks, maybe a bit longer. She seems fine apart from these little quirks she's developed. Have called the vet but she just said it's nothing to worry about.
